“No man is an island” is a cliché that still holds true today. Kung gusto mong maging successful, ‘di na uso ang “alone-ranger” at ‘di na magwo-work ang pagiging “soloista”. Sa panahon ngayon, para makuha mo ang gusto mo, what you need is a devoted, passionate and solid team — a team that will work and persevere for a common goal, to achieve the success of all.
Pero paano nga ba ang dynamics ng isang team at paano mo maha-harness ang power nito to your advantage? Ano nga ba ang mga advantages of building a strong team? Let me share with you some of my realizations that I gained from being part of and leading a team.
1. Teamwork makes the dream work.
If you want your dreams to become a reality, you need to work hard and form a team that shares the vision you have. Parang sa kotse lang yan. Kung gusto mo makarating sa destination mo, you need to have the whole car to work, all parts harmoniously working together. May gulong, may makina, may gas, may steering wheel, may kambyo. At syempre, andun ka rin to drive and navigate your way towards the target. Sabi nga, sa isang team, together everyone achieves more. This is true because each and every one contributes and puts in the efforts needed to realize the end goal. Yung weakness ng isa, is a strength of another. May sharing and accountability. May tulungan. And one of the biggest benefits of all is that when a team grows, the potential to succeed also grows.
2. Efficiency is higher with a solid team.
If nakakita ka na ng dragonboat competition, you will observe na di lang isa ang sumasagwan sa isang bangka. Marami sila para mas mabilis makuha yung results na gusto nila – which is ang manalo. This is also true when you are trying to hit your goals. If you are a one-man team, your success rate of achieving your goals is smaller, say 30%. But if you join a team that shares the same goals that you are eyeing, the success rate can shoot up to say 60%. And finally, kung yung team na nabuo mo is highly skilled, trained, disciplined, focused and growth-driven, the chances can be as high as 90%. Being in a team increases your efficiency, because in a team, all the strengths of the members are utilized accordingly, overpowering the weaknesses, that you will surely tackle kapag mag-isa ka.
3. Accountability is shared among team members.
A team works by teaming up and clashing on with challenges head on. Tulong-tulong, sama-sama at sabay-sabay. A team is a like a web na kung saan interconnected ang bawat isa, na aware kayo sa goals at dreams ng mga teammates mo. No one is left behind, every thread in the web is an indispensable part towards success. Instant na may kukulit sa’yo kapag medyo lumalayo ka na sa goals mo, and in turn, you are also given the responsibility to pull your teammates within the path when they seem to forget or veer away. Walang iwanan, hanggang sa magtagumpay.
4. Morale and motivation can be given in all angles.
Minsan ‘di mo rin mapipigilan ang sarili mo na madala sa mga challenges at problema. But when you are part of a team, they can offer you a helping hand. A simple kamustahan will surely encourage you and bolster your dwindling morale. Kasi sa team, may pakialam ang isa sa bawat isa. Ang saya nun, kasi dun mo makikita yung support system mo to pull yourself together and work again towards your goals.
5. Wide range of ideas/solutions that can be gathered.
Ang brainstorming sa isang team ay parang pagpapalipad ng saranggola. Each idea or solution offered by each team member are like threads na pwedeng pagdugtung-dugtungin para mas tumaas ang lipad ng saranggola. And the best part is, everyone benefits from it and nagkakaron ng hatakan pataas. Parang treasure chest ang isang team when it comes to finding solutions and ideas.
6. Outcomes are higher, greater, and grander.
Think of the Pyramids of Giza. Hindi yun binuo ng isang tao lang. Sobrang dami ang gumawa nito. Same as with a team and your own pyramid of Giza. When you are aiming for a bigger and higher goal, being a part of a team, and harnessing its benefits, is the best way to go.
7. Relationships are formed and bond each member together.
When the vision and mission are clear, the target is common to all, and the team is bonded by their common cause and pinagsamahan, the team is unstoppable. You will be unstoppable. And before you know it, ang lapit lapit mo na makuha yung inaasam mo.
8. Keeps the load light and well-distributed.
You can’t handle eveything alone. Imagine, nag-organize ka ng event, ikaw ang sa registration, ikaw din yung sa design, ikaw din sa marketing, ikaw din sa food, ikaw lahat – for sure, stressed na stressed ka and at the end of the day, the event might not be that successful as you expected it to be. But with a team, the event would be smooth, the manpower is fully maximized, and the timing and resources are utilized efficiently.
The team is there para tulungan ka at para mapadali ang mga bagay-bagay na kailangan mong gawin.

Kaya be patient, work very hard, keep growing yourself, and continuously improve on what you know. Sabi nga nila, kung hindi mo alam, hindi mo talaga alam. Kaya alamin mo. Kapag wala ka sa level ng success na gusto mo, okay lang yan. It just means that you are not doing the things that successful people are doing. So start learning and doing them as well. Alright? Alright!
